I’m a professor of linguistic anthropology, currently teaching at the University of Illinois. I received my PhD from the University of Chicago in 2013. I study the ways people use language as a social tool, and in particular the ways language is used to express identity and group alignment. Some of the topics I focus on: gender, humor, politics, internet discourse.
